Bio
As a musical artist, the Trap Poet provides an interesting perspective on world events, daily life, social issues, and the entire spectrum in-between. "It's like spoken word... but doper," said Taylor Jade, a longtime fan of the work.
Rhyming mostly over self-produced instrumentals inspired by trap producers such as Zaytoven, Drumma Boy, and the Renegades, Z has crafted a sound that combines heavy 808s and trap hi-hats, with soulful melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.
Musically, he draws heavy inspiration from songwriting legends Stevie Wonder and Sade, as well as lyricists like OutKast, J Cole, Lecrae, and Big KRIT. His range extends from energetic, bass-heavy bangers for the daily hustle, to deep, introspective ballads that document the struggles of the human existence.
From family life to race issues to living life in cannabis-friendly Colorado, there are few topic you won't hear Z touch on. He tends to veil his deep messages under heavy beats, creating poetry disguised as club bangers that resonates with the younger generation because of the production and the older generation because of the lyrical content.
His most recent project "Reaping SZN" was released under his label LocoMotive Entertainment on October 31st of 2018. While a slightly new sound emerges from his collaborations with Denver-based artist/producer Spectre, as well as multi-instrumentalist James Tre, Z remains true to his Trap Poetry style.
“Mxlcxlm’s talents are on full display throughout the project, showcasing his song writing skill and ability to create a cohesive, full bodied album,” says Nate Avis, owner of Denver music blog Jiggy Hip-Hop.
Three of project’s nine tracks (Mama Need, Money.Dance, & Crop Circles) were self-produced, further showcasing the artist’s creative talents. “With highly catchy vocals combined with complex, fascinating instrumentation, Reaping SZN is looking like it will serve as a strong foundation for Mxlcxlm as he becomes a more well known name in hip hop.”
The comments from Avis came after experiencing an extended, 17-track version of the album at Mxlcxlm Z’s listening party at Syntax Physic Opera in early October. What turned out to be, as Avis called it, “was one of the most authentic [events] I’ve ever been to,” Z showcased his high-energy performing abilities alongside the incredible depth of music.
In addition to the listening party, Z hit the stage many other times in 2018 including Larimer Lounge and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, Co., Home Bar in Chicago, Ill., and a headlining performance during the “Kush Groove Sundays” series at Meadowlark Bar in Denver.
Mxlcxlm Z’s broad-ranging and ever-expanding music catalogue can be found on your favorite streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and Tidal. His unique video editing style can be seen on display in his many music videos available on YouTube.
